Ethnography of las vegas

When I was 18 I had the chance to live in Las Vegas for two years. Only I would do so as a service volunteer helping with community and city outreach. From a kid coming from the Pacific Northwest this was an eye opener. Not only because of the heat, but all the different culture I experienced. I got to know Vegas in a real and intimate way as I worked and served the people there. I learned about it's history from the original settlements by the Mormon pioneers to becoming vacation and entertainment capital of the world it is today. I've walked on and lived near The Strip, but with over 640,000 people living in Vegas (28th most populated city in the US) there is so much more to Vegas than the neon lights. And here are my observations on the environment, culture, and people of Las Vegas as I got to live and serve them.
